North Manitou Island.
Rich in history, rich in beauty.
On July 4th, we plan on being on the gorgeous sandy eastern beach of NMI. If it is a clear night, maybe we will be treated to fireworks from Charlevoix.
We will explore the island, backpacking in back country camping style. Daily mileages are not long, which will allow us time to pay special attention to the island’s historical ruins and sites of natural beauty.
We will be doing the outside loop of North Manitou Island. Mileage is moderate at under 8 miles per day. The trail difficulty is easy to moderate with much of it being closer to easy.
North Manitou Island is not very treacherous, but it is remote. Therefore we would ask that attendees have some backpacking experience to join this trip.
Cost of the trip is $62. This cost covers the tickets for the ferry and the back country permits. It does not cover parking fees ($2 / night).
This trip runs from Thursday July 4th to Sunday July 7th. Attendees have to be in Leland by at least 9 am on the 4th or the ferry leaves without you.
