Interest Only – NCT Castle Rock to Trout Brook Pond Backpacking
What: Multi Night Backpacking Straight Line
When: Friday June 21 to Tuesday June 25
Where: A 40 mile section of the NCT just north of St Ignace
My adventurous college friend and I are going to hike a section of the North County Trail, are you interested in joining us?
This is a NEW section of trail for me. As such, I do not know what the difficulty of the terrain or trail conditions will be. I have reached out to the NCT chapter who maintains this section and have confirmed the parking areas that we will be using. I was also told that I have chosen a “nice section of trail”. I’m excited!
This is a multi-day trip with longer miles (around 12 a day) with terrain of unknown difficulty. This is backcountry camping; so no pump water, vault toilets, etc. We will be enjoying the trail and taking notes for a write up for Trail Talkin’.
Here is the breakdown
Friday June 21
Get close. We will drive up after work and find a hotel within a couple of hours of the trail.
Saturday June 22
This is a busy day. Up early to drop vehicles at the end of the trail (Trout Brook Pond) and drive back to the start (Castle Rock).
Hiking around 12 miles to backcountry camp close to the shores of Bevoort Lake
Sunday June 23
We will make our way around Brevoort Lake, to head NE over Carp River, across US 123 to camp close to Bissel Creek
This will also be about a 12 mile day. US 123 is a large road and could be an out.
Monday June 24
Continue NE passing Taylor Creek, the north branch of the Carp River and East Lake to camp close to Little Bear Creek.
This will be close to a 13 mile day, without many road crossings.
Tuesday June 25
Continue North over Bear Creek to Trout Brook Road and the stage vehicles.
This is a short day (around 3 miles). This is purposely short, as to provide time to drive home or as a buffer if the intended miles on previous days prove to be too long.
Meet at the hotel, more details to follow.
