What is your must-have piece of gear on a trip? What have you tried and abandoned?

Let's get a bit meta here, talking about the new website on the new website. As you know, SOLAR's leaders are all volunteers, including the webmaster and the website committee. Thank you for your patience as we figure out how to build and improve this new website! Some features are not yet functional, but we are working on them. Please tell us what you like about the website, what isn't working like it should, and what you'd like to see here. We can't promise to be able to fulfill all wishes - we are not professional web designers - but we are open to suggestions and will see what we can do.
